Top journal recognizes Ottawa expertise in patient decision aids

août 17, 2017

Dr. Dawn Stacey and her colleagues were invited by the prestigious Journal of the American Medical Association (JAMA) to submit a summary of their recent Cochrane systematic review on patient decision aids. The review reports on the effectiveness of patient decision aids that are used to help people weigh the possible benefits and harms of treatment and screening options. It found that patient decision aids are associated with better quality decisions and a better decision-making process with no disadvantages for patients or the health-care system. Dr. Stacey and her team maintain the world’s largest inventory of patient decision aids, which typically generates over 30,000 page views per year and over 700,000 on other website resources. Their decision aids are used by patients and health-care providers at The Ottawa Hospital and around the world.
