How does the liver affect the immune system? $175,000 grant to help find answers
juin 10, 2015
Dr.
Angela Crawley
has been awarded a $175,000 grant from the Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council of Canada to study how cells in the liver can influence the immune response. This project focuses on a kind of cell called a macrophage, which means “big eater” in Greek because it engulfs bacteria, viruses and many other things and presents these to the immune system to help orchestrate a response against foreign pathogens. Dr. Crawley is particularly interested in macrophages in the liver and how they may contribute to immune problems observed in patients with hepatitis C and HIV.
