Researchers at The Ottawa Hospital are leading 14 new projects funded by the Canadian Institutes of Health Research (CIHR) through the most recent operating grant competition.
These projects, worth more than $10 million, will advance science and improve health in diverse areas such as prostate cancer, thrombosis, hemorrhagic stroke, prenatal development, health misinformation, liver disease, subarachnoid hemorrhage, systematic review reproducibility, serotonergic psychedelics, disease reporting, virtual anesthesiology consultations, first-responder suicide, disease detection in pregnancy and language of care.
Our researchers are also co-leading grants administered at other institutions that are worth at least $3 million.
“Success at CIHR underscores the creativity, dedication and collaboration of our researchers and their teams. Funding for these innovative projects paves the way for groundbreaking advancement in biomedical sciences, improved patient care and progress towards better health on a global scale,” said Dr. Rebecca Auer, Executive Vice-President, Research and Innovation at The Ottawa Hospital and professor at the University of Ottawa.
The Ottawa Hospital Research Institute (OHRI) had a success rate of 24% percent in this competition compared to the national average of 18% percent. The hospital currently ranks among the top four in the country for CIHR funding.
